Customs Clearance

Customs Clearance

Customs clearance is a necessary procedure before goods can be imported or exported internationally. If the shipment is cleared then the shipper will provide documentation, confirming shipment duties that are paid and the shipment can be processed.

The Customs clearance process involves the following steps:

  • Document Inspection: A customs officer will review all the documents and If they are found to be in order, will begin the customs clearance process.
  • Tax and Duty Calculation: Taxes and Duties are calculated based on the types of goods in your shipment, their declared value, the customs law of the country and mode of shipping.
  • Incoterm choice and payment of Tax and Duties: You can either choose one of the following incoterms, DDP (Delivery Duty Paid) and DDU (Delivery Duty Unpaid). Customs official will check which of the incoterms apply to your shipment and will take further steps accordingly.
  • Release of Shipment: As soon as all the outstanding taxes and duties are paid, the customs department releases the shipment and it continues to its final destination.
